DESCRIPTION

Kaumodaki, the name of the mace carried by Vishnu, is referred to as the power of knowledge. Knowledge is regarded as the core or essence of life from which evolves all physical and mental powers. Nothing but time possesses the power to conquer knowledge. In general, the mace is identified with goddess Kali, the deity who commands over time and destroys those opposing it.

These mace conch shells can be kept in places of worship.

USES

The mace or club is one of the oldest types of weapons. The popularity of the weapons with Vishnu worshippers may have led to its depiction with the deity. The gada – a symbol of strength – was a common weapon for hand-to-hand combat and was regarded as the strongest of weapons. Kaumodaki is the gada (mace) of the Hindu god Vishnu. Vishnu is often depicted holding the Kaumodaki in one of his four hands. The name "Kaumodaki" first appears in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, where it is associated with Vishnu's avatar Krishna. The gada is depicted in images of Vishnu since ages. Though the weapon may be depicted as an inanimate gada, Kaumodaki sometimes appears personified as a woman known as Gadadevi or Godavari in sculptures of Vishnu. The gada, regarded as one of the oldest and strongest weapons, is a symbol of Vishnu's powers. Various texts discuss the symbolism of Kaumodaki in Vishnu's iconography.

Seashells have been used as musical instruments, wind instruments for many hundreds if not thousands of years. Whole seashells or parts of sea shells have been used as jewellery or in other forms of adornment since prehistoric times. Shells historically have been and still are made into, or incorporated into, necklaces, pendants, buttons, beads, earrings, brooches, rings, belt buckles and other uses. Small pieces of coloured and iridescent shell have been used to create mosaics and inlays, which have been used to decorate walls, furniture and boxes. Large numbers of whole seashells, arranged to form patterns, have been used to decorate mirror frames and furniture.

Please Note: Seashells are naturally occurring substances. The availability, size and colour differs from product to product and varies from season to season, depending on the lot.
